#LoveDonegal 2024 – A global celebration and a growing legacy.

#LoveDonegal was the resounding success heard around the world on Wednesday, 25th of September, showcasing the stunning landscapes, which saw Donegal communities from every corner of the world come together across social media channels to celebrate #LoveDonegal Day 2024.

This years campaign had an incredible response, reaching an astounding global audience of 99.5 million throughout the day. The campaign, which has become an annual celebration and taken on a life of its own, showcased the unparalleled beauty, rich history, and vibrant community spirit of County Donegal to audiences across the world.

#LoveDonegal Day has become a key event in Donegal's promotional calendar. The ongoing success of the campaign speaks to the dedication of the local community, Donegal County Council, and Fáilte Ireland in preserving and sharing the county’s distinctive charm with the world.

Individuals, organisations, and businesses from near and far took to social media platforms including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads and LinkedIn to share their love for Donegal using the hashtags #LoveDonegal and #DúnnanGallAbú, to celebrated everything Donegal and how important their connection to the county is.

The campaign saw participation from a wide array of influencers, media outlets, and celebrities, further propelling Donegal’s profile on the world stage. Irish diaspora across the globe played a major role, reconnecting with their heritage and promoting the county to a wider audience.

The momentum continued over the course of the weekend, with other related event showcasing the county’s strong links to diaspora, increasing the global reach of the campaign to an impressive 197.5 million by Sunday evening!

The extraordinary reach not only reflects Donegal’s growing appeal as a tourism destination but also serves as a powerful boost to the local economy. With its pristine beaches, ancient landmarks, and warm hospitality, Donegal has solidified its place on the must-visit list for global travellers.

The 2024 #LoveDonegal/#DúnnanGallAbú Campaign was co-ordinated by Donegal County Council. Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr. Niamh Kennedy believes that #LoveDonegal day shows the strong connections that the county has across the world saying “That so many people engaged with this campaign is a testament to the unique beauty and culture of Donegal."

"With so many people across the globe participating, it really promoted Donegal as an ideal place to live, to visit, to invest, to work, do business and to relocate to through the special significance our magnificent county has”.
