Sport and the Great Outdoors

Sport plays a pivotal role in the lives of many Donegal people. It is a huge part of our identity and a source of passion and pride for Donegal people at home and further afield.

What’s great about sport and outdoor activity in Donegal is that it’s so easy to take part and belong. Getting involved with a club is a great way to connect with your community and tap into the sense of belonging.

If you don’t want to join a club, there are lots of other ways to take part in outdoor activity. The coast is lined with surfing, sailing, canoeing and adventure sports centres. There’s a growing range of hiking and cycling trails and routes across the county if you prefer to beat your own path. There is an amazing array of unspoilt heritage sites to explore: castles, forts, stone circles and crosses, and standing stones aswell as the iconic landmarks like Sliabh Liag sea cliffs, Beltany Stone Circle, Malin Head and Grianán of Aileach.
