Donegal is situated in the North West of Ireland and although situated in the most northerly part of Ireland, is located within the Republic of Ireland. Some of the best things about travelling around Donegal are the short commute times, minimal traffic congestion, and so much beauty to take in along our Wild Atlantic Way! Donegal is approximately 3 hours from Dublin and just 2 hours from Belfast.
The most memorable way to arrive in the county is to land at one of the world’s most scenic airports – Donegal Airport in Carrickfinn. Other nearby regional airports include City of Derry Airport and Belfast International Airport in Northern Ireland or Ireland West Airport in Knock, County Mayo.
Ferry services link the county to the Gaeltacht communities of Tory Island and Árainn Mhór off the west coast. There are also seasonal ferry services on Lough Foyle, linking Magilligan in County Derry to Greencastle. On Lough Swilly, you can take a ferry from Buncrana to Rathmullan.
