To become an apprentice in Ireland you must be hired by an employer.

Apprenticeship employers are formally approved by SOLAS (state agency that oversees Further Education & Training FET sector) in advance of employing apprentices.

Donegal Education and Training Board will know details of employers seeking to employ an apprentice in Donegal or you can search apprenticeship vacancies on the Generation Apprenticeship

Key Aspects for Apprentice

Gain valuable knowledge and skills; Accelerate your Career Prospects
Lead to Job Ready at Levels 5 to 10 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)
Between 2-4 years in duration
The Minimum age varies from 16 - 18years but there is no upper age limit
Minimum 50% on-the-job learning
Flexible delivery – online, blended, off-the-job learning in increments/blocks
Apprentices are employed under a formal contract of apprenticeship
The employer pays the apprentice for the duration of the apprenticeship*

* For apprenticeships in place prior to 2016 the State pays a training allowance to apprentices during off-the-job training phases.

However, before registering an apprentice, employers must contact the Apprenticeship Team to ensure that they are approved to recruit apprentices.
