Donegal County Council has officially launched the Love Donegal 2026 campaign at Crolly Distillery on 16 September, celebrating the people, communities, culture and spirit that make Donegal such a special place to live, work, visit and call home.
The launch brought together elected members, community representatives, stakeholders, and media ahead of Love Donegal Day, taking place on 17 September 2026. Love Donegal Day encourages people at home and across the global Donegal diaspora to share what they love about the county, helping to showcase Donegal's unique identity, heritage and vibrant communities to audiences around the world.
Addressing guests at the launch, the Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr Gary Doherty, said:
"Love Donegal Day is about pride in place. It celebrates our people, communities, culture and creativity, while giving those at home and abroad the chance to share their connection with Donegal and help tell our county's story to the world."
Speaking at the launch, Brenda Hegarty, Head of Economic Development at Donegal County Council, said:
“Love Donegal Day is an invitation for everyone to share their Donegal story. Whether it's a cherished memory, a special place, an inspiring person, or an unforgettable experience, every story helps celebrate the warmth, creativity, and strong community spirit that make Donegal so unique”.
Guests at the launch enjoyed a showcase of Donegal food and hospitality from Peter and Briege Campbell, Albatross Seafoods, Little Mamma's Gelato, Coco Millis and Donegal Food Coast, while Isla McGuckin, Paul Sharkey and Eileen Doherty shared stories and music celebrating the county's rich cultural heritage.
Crolly Distillery provided a fitting backdrop for the launch, reflecting the innovation, heritage and entrepreneurial spirit that continue to drive Donegal forward.
The Love Donegal campaign continues to grow in reach and impact. Last year's campaign achieved a reported reach of 109 million people worldwide, demonstrating the strong connection people at home and abroad have with Donegal. Through photographs, stories, videos and messages shared across social media, thousands helped showcase the county to a global audience.On 17 September 2026, people are encouraged to join the celebrations by sharing their favourite Donegal memories, photographs, stories and experiences on social media using #LoveDonegalDay.
The Cathaoirleach concluded by thanking everyone involved in organising the event, the team at Crolly Distillery for hosting the launch, and all those who continue to support the initiative.
