Programme of events announced for the AER Summer Academy 2022

2022 marks the European Year of Youth and Donegal County Council, in conjunction with Údaras na Gaeltachta are delighted to be hosting the Assembly of European Regions Summer Academy from the 29th August to the 1st of September.

AER is the largest network of regions in wider Europe, gathering varying locations across 35 countries. From Norway to Turkey and Georgia to Portugal, the AER is present across the European continent, inside and outside the EU.

This year’s programme of events will gather some of Europe’s finest talents to events taking place across the Atlantic Technological University campus in Letterkenny and gteic @ Gaoth Dobhair.

A plenary debate on youth participation in regional politics, and a wide range of workshops on rural entrepreneurship, the bioeconomy, the Ukrainian refugee crisis, the future of skills, of tourism and remote working will mean there is something for everyone. Study visits to Derry City to learn about the Peace Process and a trip to Glenveagh National Park is also on the cards.

 

AER Summer Academy Partners 2022

Confirmed speakers include, among others, Andreas Kiefer, Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, Minister of State Jack Chambers TD, Joe McHugh TD, Chair of the Irish Parliamentary Committee on European Union Affairs, and Anne Karjalainen, Chair of the European Committee of the Regions’ Commission for Social Policy, Education, Employment, Research and Culture. Delegations are expected from AER member regions in Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Romania, Spain, Serbia and partner organisations in the youth field. 

Youth tickets (18-30) for the week’s activities and Adult tickets are priced at €240 and €575 respectively and include airport transfers, accommodation for 4 nights, entry to the conference and workshops, meals and excursions, representing huge value for money for this once in a lifetime event in Donegal.

If you can’t make the full week, day tickets are priced at €50 with lunch provided.
