Donegal County Council hosts the 3rd Regional Stakeholder Meeting

of the Interreg Europe Green Hydra Project, Featuring a demonstration of Kinia’s Hydrogen Education Programme

Donegal county Council held their 3rd Regional Stakeholder Meeting of the Interreg Europe Green Hydra this week at the Clanree  Hotel, Letterkenny, Co Donegal with a strong focus on hydrogen innovation, education, and community engagement.

The meeting brought together regional stakeholders from across Donegal’s public, private, industry and education sectors to explore how hydrogen technologies can drive sustainable energy transitions in the Northwest. Representatives from Local Industry, WDC, ETB, ATU and several local schools all attended and participated in this workshop.

The key focus of the session was a hands-on workshop and demonstration by Kinia, showcasing their pioneering Hydrogen Education Programme delivered through the Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP) initiative. Kinia’s hands-on STEM programme introduces young people to hydrogen fuel cell technology by designing, engineering, and racing small-scale hydrogen-powered vehicles. Their course can be adapted to focus on primary, secondary or higher education students.

Participants had the opportunity to get some hands on with the education programme, observe the technology in action, engage directly with Kinia’s education specialists, and discuss the role of hydrogen skills development in supporting Ireland’s future green economy.

Hydrogen will play an important role in achieving regional and national climate goals. This workshop and demonstration highlighted the importance of early education, skills development, and community awareness as we prepare for a hydrogen-enabled future as well as highlighting how education and industry working in tandem can advance the local hydrogen ecosystem.

The Interreg Europe Green Hydra project supports regions across Europe to exchange best practices and accelerate the uptake of hydrogen solutions that contribute to decarbonisation, resilience, and sustainable regional development.
