The Workhouse is a Community Heritage Centre in Donegal that offers a number of amenities to the local community and visitors. It contains a craft shop, café, an exhibition gallery, a play park, visitor information, and a 30-seat cinema all within the confines of the original 1845 Workhouse structure and an extension built in 1995. It is within walking distance to the village of Dunfanaghy and offers communal spaces for local classes and groups to use throughout the year. The craft shop offers crafts and wares from local sellers as well as other Irish products. The visitor information is fully stocked with things to do in the local area and our staff is always at hand to recommend places to go and eat. We offer an audio tour of our exhibition which tells our visitors of the history of this workhouse, the Great Famine and the story of Hannah Herrity, a local woman who survived it and its hardships, and after the tour visitors are welcome to come into our café to try some of our delicious coffee and cakes.
