Night-time Economy advisor secured for Buncrana as part of new pilot scheme

Buncrana is set to benefit from a new advisor to help develop a sustainable night-time economy in the town as part of a new pilot scheme.

Donegal County Council's submission for the town was among nine successful applicants in total which has been selected. Other towns and cities include Dublin City, Cork City, Limerick City, Galway City, Drogheda, Kilkenny, Sligo, Buncrana and Longford Town.

Minister for Tourism, Catherine Martin TD, made the announcement yesterday (25/10/22) along with other initiatives which she said “will contribute to a better night-time economy.”

The Cabinet has agreed the outline of legislation that would allow pubs open from 10.30am to 12.30am, seven days a week, while nightclubs would not have to close until 6am. A new capital fund of up to €2m in sound-proofing grants for night-time venues has also been announced.

Minister Martin spoke about the roles of the advisors who will engage with the community, businesses, venues and artists to “stimulate the night-time economy”, tailoring plans for a more vibrant and safe night-life for the area.
