Donegal's Content Llama secures €2.5m investment to fuel expansion

Donegal based Content Llama has secured a €2.5m investment, paving the way for the creation of up to 20 new jobs and the opportunity to further expand its presence globally.

Founded by Karina Kelly and Joleen Looney back in 2019, the Content Configuration Technology, automates the collection, configuration and delivery of multi-source product content for e-commerce retailers and in turn connects brands and retailers in a more meaningful way.

Currently, employing 42 staff, including 16 in Ireland, Content Llama plans to create 20 new positions within the next 12 months. The Enterprise Ireland backed company collaborates with over 3,600 brands to configure content at scale for clients like Walmart, Aer Rianta International and Lifestyle Sports.

This funding round was led by Elkstone Partners and The Western Development Commission with the company intending to expand its presence into global markets and broaden its reach of potential customers. A particular focus will be on the United States with their base from Chicago. 

Tomás Ó Síocháin, CEO of the Western Development Commission, said that Content Llama are building a company that is delivering best-in-class content to global brands from their base in Donegal.

"Their success to date is an example of the opportunities for start-ups based in the west in the digital economy. The WDC is delighted to support Karina and Joleen, it's great to work with a female founder team," he added.

Karina Kelly, CEO and co-founder of Content Llama said, the new investment means the company can expedite its global growth in the e-commerce retail space.

"Our proprietary Content Configuration Technology is simplifying content publishing for retailers the world over. Investment in our technology and people at this stage of the company's development is crucial to Content Llama owning the Content Configuration space," she added.
