Killybegs-Based SeaQuest Wins BIM Aquatech Business of the Year Award

Donegal company SeaQuest Systems has been named Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) Aquatech Business of the Year, recognising its excellence in innovation and engineering within the global aquaculture sector.

Founded in 1986 and headquartered in Killybegs, SeaQuest Systems has grown into a leading marine engineering and aquaculture company, employing more than 90 people and serving customers across Europe and North America.

Specialising in the design and manufacture of fish pumping systems, hydraulic equipment, cranes and marine handling solutions, the company has developed a strong international reputation for delivering innovative technologies to the seafood and marine industries.

The award was presented at BIM’s Blue Ambition conference in Dublin, which brought together industry leaders, policymakers, researchers and international experts to explore opportunities within Ireland’s growing blue bioeconomy.

Congratulating SeaQuest on its achievement, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Timmy Dooley TD, praised the company's commitment to innovation and ambition. He noted that SeaQuest has built a successful business supplying vital technology and equipment to marine and aquaculture enterprises around the world.

The Minister also pointed to the significant opportunities emerging within the blue bioeconomy, particularly as global demand continues to grow for aquaculture technology, sustainable food systems and bio-based products.

A Success Story for Donegal's Marine Economy

SeaQuest’s recognition as BIM Aquatech Business of the Year is a significant achievement for the company and for Donegal’s thriving marine sector. The award reflects the strength of indigenous enterprise in the county and highlights the important role that businesses in coastal communities play in driving innovation, supporting employment and contributing to Ireland’s blue economy.

As Ireland’s largest maritime county, Donegal is uniquely positioned to benefit from the growth of the blue economy. The county’s strengths in fisheries, aquaculture, seafood processing, marine engineering and coastal enterprise are increasingly being complemented by innovation in areas such as marine technology, renewable energy and the blue bioeconomy. Companies such as SeaQuest demonstrate how Donegal businesses are competing successfully on a global stage while creating high-quality employment and supporting sustainable growth in coastal communities.

Brenda Hegarty, Head of Economic Development, Donegal County Council, said:

“Congratulations to Brian Leslie and the SeaQuest team on being recognised as BIM Aquatech Business of the Year. The award highlights the company’s outstanding commitment to innovation, competitiveness and growth, and underlines the important role it plays in strengthening Donegal’s marine economy. SeaQuest has demonstrated how a world-class business can thrive from Killybegs, creating skilled employment, driving exports and showcasing the quality and expertise that exists within the North West. We wish the team continued success as they continue to grow and innovate.”
