Donegal County Council was delighted to welcome a distinguished delegation from Indianapolis to the Donegal Town Public Services Centre on Friday, 20th June. The visit marks a growing relationship between Donegal and Indiana, following the recent launch of direct flights between Dublin and Indianapolis in early May.
The delegation was received by Cathaoirleach of Donegal Municipal District, Cllr. Michéal Naughton, along with Head of Tourism Joy Browne, Diaspora Officer Eoin Leonard, and Tourism Officer Eoin McHugh.
The visiting delegation included representatives from local government, public service, education, and Irish cultural organisations in Indianapolis. Notable attendees were Kevin Charles Murray, General Counsel for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office; Federal Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson; Marion County Treasurer Barbara Lawrence; and Kasey Kendrick, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Indianapolis. Also in attendance were former Fire Chief Louis Dezelan, President of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Indianapolis David Ruhmkorff, and Tom McNulty, Hibernian Officer. Among others, John Hegarty—originally from Kilcar and now Director of the International Division at Scecina Memorial High School—was warmly welcomed home.
During the visit, it was announced that Kevin Murray is to be appointed as the Honourary Consul for Indiana, further strengthening ties between the Hoosier State and Ireland.
Discussions focused on deepening future collaboration in areas including tourism, culture, and education, with a shared ambition to promote Donegal to audiences across Indiana.
