December 31st saw the conclusion of another very successful #BuyDonegal campaign. Officially launched on 27th October by Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Jack Murray, businesses were treated to an informative talk on consumer insights and Donegal’s value proposition from Customer Experience Excellence Ireland’s Charlie Boyle. Award-winning designer Edel Mac Bride and Director of Filligan’s, Willie Cremen also shared their views on the campaign and the importance of local businesses supporting each other.
Running from the 5th November – 31st December, #BuyDonegal showcased the wide range of businesses and services available in the county to a global audience of over 70 countries.
The addition of 50 new businesses brought the campaign over the threshold of over 300 businesses signed up and participating in this year’s campaign. Participating businesses can still be viewed here.
Across Donegal.ie’s social media accounts, 90 businesses were showcased through the virtual town's focus. ‘Posts of the Week’ and weekly summaries of posts throughout all channels led us to mention over 150 businesses across our platforms.
#BuyDonegal generated a huge level of consumer engagement and the support of well known Donegal ambassadors such as Noel Cunningham, Packie Bonner, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Donegal Daddy and many more, led to #BuyDonegal being mentioned 6,000 times, and reaching 13.9 million accounts on social media!
The phenomenal reach of the campaign was assisted with features on RTÉ’s Radio Na Gaeltachta, Ocean FM, Highland Radio, Donegal Daily and the Inish Times.
The success of the initiative was also rewarded with a local government award for ‘Promoting Economic Development’ by Chambers Ireland.
