A flagship initiative of Project Ireland 2040 led by Donegal County Council’s Regeneration and Development Team. Letterkenny 2040 will establish a compelling and ambitious vision for the future of the town as a competitive regional centre, attracting investment and identifying a series of projects to bring about social, economic and environmental transformation of the town centre.
Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Donegal County Council announced in June 2021, the submission by Joseph McCallion as the winning design concept in the architectural competition to re-imagine Market Square, Letterkenny. His design is adjacent.Find Out More
Killybegs Regeneration Group in conjunction with Donegal County Council has finalized and published an exciting and visionary Regeneration Strategy for Killybegs. It is a roadmap of key priorities and actions for the sustainable regeneration of Killybegs town centre to 2040 and beyond.
The Regeneration and Development Team in Donegal County Council are advancing plans to regenerate Killybegs. They will work to enhance the public realm and strengthen the physical, social and economic capacity of the Town. The proposed development seeks to support and service the growing tourism sector through the reuse of the building known as Island House as a tourism information office. The Councils Regeneration and Development Team in partnership with Spraoi agus Spórt is proposing a Town Centre Regeneration Project in Carndonagh, Co. Donegal. This exciting project will aim to address both physical and social regeneration targets in the town through repurposing vacant or derelict buildings to create a new central ‘hub’ facilitating a diverse range of youth, commercial, social, creative, recreational and tourism needs together with remote co-working opportunities. The Councils Regeneration & Development Team, working in collaboration with Ballybofey and Stranorlar Integrated Community Council (BASICC) has published exciting plans for a transformational town centre regeneration project in Ballybofey-Stranorlar town centres located in the Stranorlar Municipal District, County Donegal. The ‘SEED’ project is a sustainable, green, regeneration project that will engage in place-making to revitalise the town centres of Ballybofey-Stranorlar. It will deliver a ‘town centre heart’ via a new civic space/town square with public amenities, together with enterprise space in a repurposed heritage building and additional town centre car parking capacity.Find Out More
Donegal County Council’s Regeneration & Development Team in conjunction with GM Design Associates is pleased to announce the launch of ‘FUTURE Ballyshannon’, a visioning project which will deliver a Regeneration Strategy and Action Plan for Ballyshannon Town Centre in consultation with the local community. The Regeneration Strategy and Action Plan will provide an evidenced framework that will set out the future regeneration aspirations and priorities for Ballyshannon town and will identify a range of credible and deliverable actions, interventions and projects that will be developed to concept design stage and will be aligned to relevant funding streams to support their delivery.Find out more

Donegal County Council, intend to implement a series of enhancements to the public realm of Ramelton's Historic Town Centre. These Changes seek to improve the overall pedestrian experience and legibility of the space, enhancing the towns attractiveness as a local and regional destination. The proposed development aims to strengthen and enhance the physical, environmental, social and economic capacity of Ramelton supporting the designation of Ramelton as a strategic town with a special economic function for Built Heritage in the County Donegal Development Plan 2018-2024 .Find Out More
The proposed development forms part of a broader and linked project Burtonport/Árainn Mhór ‘Harbour to Island Regeneration’ Project for the regeneration of Burtonport and Árainn Mhór. Phase 1 of the project will provide for the transformation of the Harbour at Burtonport to a multi-user space with modern transport infrastructure, public amenities, services and parking and will develop shorefront recreation, outdoor amenity and event space on Aranmore Island.
Phase 2 of the project proposes a new harbour building and enterprise units building that will present as an important physical element of the overall development and provide a valuable opportunity to introduce regenerative physical development, a diversification of uses and quality architecture to the marine and harbour environmentFind out more
