Bernie Murphy is from Inishowen, Co. Donegal. She grew up in a family in which traditional sewing and knitting skills were valued and at a time when the textile industry was still a major provider of employment throughout the northwest. Bernie trained in pattern-making and cutting and worked as a garment technologist for a major manufacturer; this experience has given her an in-depth understanding of fabrics and garment structure. Bernie is passionate about traditional Irish fabrics and interprets them in a unique, individual way. Living in the dramatic landscape of the Wild Atlantic Way, Bernie is influenced by the colours and textures which surround her and translates these influences into her garments, which combine drama and sophistication.
