Donegal Camino 2024 with a mission to raise €100,000 for Cancer Care West Services in Donegal

24 days remain to the opening of  Donegal Camino 2024, on Camino Sunday 1st of September 2024  in Malin Head, Inishowen, Ireland’s and Donegal’s most northerly point. Walkers and hikers are in for another thrilling Donegal Camino experience now in its 4th year. The 7 day walking festival which takes in 7 contrasting walks across the magical  high ways and bi-ways  of Donegal has a walk suitable for all fitness levels. Welcoming walkers from all across the island of Ireland and the world, the Donegal Camino is positioning a world-class walking product as a number one choice for Donegal, now Lonely Planet’s fourth best region in the world to visit.

Registration continues to remain open until late August with places filling up across the range of 7 exciting walking routes from Malin Head to Europe’s highest sea cliffs, Sliabh Liag in the Southwest of Donegal.

The Donegal Camino is now Cancer Care West Donegal’s flagship fundraising initiative and the organizing committee led by chairperson Noel Cunningham, have set themselves a fundraising target of €100,000 for 2024. 

Since 2021 the Donegal Camino has raised €160,000 for the cancer charity.

Welcoming back staunch Donegal Camino funding partners, Gallaghers Bakehouse, 3D Personnel, Harvey’s Point, Sendmode, Donegal Tourism, the committee are beyond grateful for their support  and that of Kelly Group, Britton Insurance, Healthwise Pharmacies, DRUVA Silver Lining Cloud Consulting, nVolve Group, Mc Cafferty’s Traditional Irish Bars, Donegal.

Founding Committee members of the Donegal  Camino, Peggy Stringer and Deirdre McGlone former owner of Harvey’s Point have created novel and innovative fundraising initiatives to support the €100,000 target.

In Dublin at Monkstown Skincare Clinic, owned by Inishowen business woman and founder of the Donegal Camino, Peggy Stringer, 25% discount on all treatments on Sunday 18th August will be extended to clients while staff will give of their time complimentary on the day with all funds raised going directly to the Donegal Camino 2024 Cancer Care West Donegal fund.

If you would like to win a holiday in France, Deirdre McGlone and Marc Gysling former owners of Harvey’s Point are running a fundraising raffle for a 5 night luxury stay for 2 people in their romantic hideaway of  Le Malbec overlooking the vineyard at Le Moulin Sur Célé in the Lot Valley in South West France. 

All proceeds from the raffle go to Donegal Camino 2024’s fundraising drive for Cancer Care West, Letterkenny, Co Donegal.

Annual Donegal Camino walker, Barbara Mc Ginley from Ballyshannon recently ran a musical coffee morning at her home which raised over €1,500.  Organisers of the Donegal Camino welcome all donations, small or large and encourage everyone to put the “fun” in “fundraising” for Donegal Camino 2024 as each step walked from Sunday the 1st to Saturday 7th September goes towards achieving the target of a €100,000 donation for Cancer Care West Services in Donegal.

The 2024 Donegal Camino itinerary features many familiar walks and as always there’s plenty of new walks and hikes to explore the wealth scenic routes across the county.  Day 1 will kick off in a stunning musical fanfare by the Inishowen Collective in Malin Head on Camino Sunday 1st September. Day 2 Monday 2nd September takes in the breathtaking scenery and serenity of Ards Forest Park when Mikey Joe Harte will serenade walkers with some lovely tunes. Tuesday 3rd September and Day 3 features the unique experience of a sunrise climb of Errigal, Donegal’s highest peak when Donegal composer and fiddle player Matt Mc Granaghan will join hikers. This is weather permitting and the start time of 4.30am has the potential to change. The midweek point, Wednesday, 4th of September takes Donegal Camino walkers into the heart of the Donegal Gaeltacht for a lovely island walk across Oileáin na Cruite or Cruit Island. A magical day is expected with plenty of Donegal Musical surprises scheduled and a traditional Donegal Camino Gallaghers Bakehouse Picnic. Crohy Head and the Gay Byrne Trail or Cosán Gay Byrne a stunning walk with magical Wild Atlantic Way and Donegal Coastal views is scheduled for Day 5, Thursday 5th of September.

The weekend will bring Donegal Camino into the south of  county Donegal and the heart of the Donegal Town 550 celebrations with a magical walk of the Bluestack Way on Friday 6th September, culminating in a fun celebration on the newly refurbished Diamond of Donegal Town. The traditional finale of the Donegal Camino on Saturday 7th of September will once again be on Europe’s highest sea cliffs, Sliabh Liag. New to the Donegal Camino itinerary for 2024 is an alternative to the Sliabh Liag climb, an enjable Sliabh Liag Boat Trip with ticket donations going to Donegal Camino’s fundraising for Cancer Care West Donegal.
