Foody Destination

Donegal has an exceptionally high standard of natural ingredients and foods. This is due to our unspoilt environment, climate and richly diverse, natural and authentic landscape. You can get a true taste of Donegal in our fabulous range of restaurants, bars and hotels.

And there’s a lot to savour that represents the best of what Ireland has to offer: fresh fish from the sea, locally sourced meats, home-grown produce, and fresh-baked treats.

So, we have a growing reputation for our quality food and seafood culture and our county is strongly supporting its development. We’re putting ourselves on the map as a foodie destination and winning accolades for our work.

Award Winning Foodie Location!

Donegal Town won the ‘Foodie Towns 2019’ award – a part of the national Foodie Destinations Award. (The town also hosts the annual Taste of Donegal Food Festival) In addition, the county-wide Donegal Food Coast initiative took third place in the Foodie Destination category. So good food is definitely in our DNA!

Backed by Donegal’s Local Enterprise Office, the Donegal Food Coast initiative aims to support, celebrate and expand the Donegal food sector. It’s made up of food producers, chefs and restaurants dedicated to improving the food experience for locals and visitors alike.

The Food Coast initiative certifies Donegal food producers as well as service & retail sector businesses that sell Donegal-made produce. Key restaurant members include the 4-star Harvey’s Point and The Lemon Tree in Letterkenny which features in the Michelin Guide. Well known producers include Mulroy Bay Mussels, Kinnegar Brewing, and Lisnamulligan Farm.
