Ardara Walking Festival 2022
Friday the 18th to Sunday the 20th of March
Friday the 18th of March:
Registration in the Heritage Centre Ardara from 7pm – 9pm.
Day 1 – Saturday 19th March
Easy to moderate Walk – 12km
The beautiful Ownea riverbank – Lough McHugh loop walk. Travelling along the Bluestack Way and the International Appalachian Trail. Bus pick-up from Ardara town car park behind Nancy’s Bar at 10.30am.
Moderate to difficult walk – Distance varies on the day
The fantastic Lough Finn gully to Aghla hike. A strenuous start leading to a spot height of 593m with beautiful panoramic views of our surrounding counties, for experienced hikers only. Day 2 – Sunday 20th March
Easy to moderate Walk – 10 to 12km
A beautiful loop walk through Sheskinmore Nature Reserve, taking in Ballinreavey strand. Bus pick-up from Ardara town car park behind Nancy’s Bar at 10.30am.
Moderate to difficult walk
Coastal walk ascending from Maghera onto Sliabh Tuaidh. Spectacular hike with beautiful views of Maghera, Loughros Point, Dawros Bay and the surrounding areas. Ground can be difficult and steep in places, for experienced hikers only. Bus pick-up from Ardara Town car park behind Nancy’s Bar at 9am or parking at Maghera car park with the hike leaving from there at 9.30am. House keeping
• Busses will be available for both moderate to difficult hikes with travel times less than 15 minutes for both easy to moderate walks, but walkers can drive to the start points themselves if they so choose.
• Distances for both moderate to difficult hikes will vary on the day.
• Both moderate to difficult hikes are for experienced hikers only.
• Children are welcome on the easy to moderate walks, as long they are accompanied by an adult and are capable of the distance.
